Core Values
Relating to Style
At Gwendolyn Carrié there is a firm belief in the need for refined understatement so accessories achieve their purpose: to complement the wearer and not to overshadow or define them.
While always ensuring our products are distinctive, we wish to steer clear of branding through initials and obvious logos. Other prominent designer brands are able to satisfy those seeking that alternative identity.
Relating to Individuality
An important theme at Gwendolyn Carrié is the desire to keep the products exclusive. Individuals who choose our accessories do so with the wish of not crossing another person wearing the same item. With careful planning, our styles remain relatively exclusive in the true sense of the word. First, through a small universe of independent stockists who understand and appreciate our values. Secondly and as importantly, by carefully restricting the number of shoes or bags produced in any given colour or style no matter how popular. In fact many of our shoes are virtually semi-couture with only 6 to 8 pairs ever made of that style and colour. It is for this reason we often choose to use vintage materials such as antique lace or ribbon and offer items on a limited edition basis.
Relating to Comfort
Comfort need not be compromised to achieve elegance. One key element of this is the use of only natural materials avoiding synthetics on both the upper and sole to allow the foot to breathe. In addition comfort is achieved through the choice of heels which while maintaining their elegance, provide superior support (for example, our hourglass-shaped heels are elegantly tapered with an extended base which provides greater stability). Comfort also results from careful attention to design. Evening sandals provide enough coverage in key areas which properly hold the foot in place.
Relating to Only Using the Real Thing
Not only do luxury customers expect us to only use real skins but we do so also to uphold our commitment to comfort. The vast majority of printed or embossed crocodile and python etc. are made from relatively poor quality cow skins. Such leathers tend to be extremely tough and unforgiving on the feet.
